Atlanta United is still interviewing candidates for its vacant managerial position, according to a statement from the team on Friday.

A report out of Argentina stated that the club and Gerardo Martino were close to finalizing a deal for him to become the MLS expansion club’s first manager. The team will begin play in 2017.

Martino, 53, is formerly the manager of the Argentinian national team, as well as Barcelona. He resigned from the Argentinian job this summer after being beaten by Chile in the finals of the Copa America for the second consecutive year.

He has coached numerous club teams in his native Argentina as well as others in South America.

Martino has never coached in MLS or the United States.
