Two Atlanta United players made their debuts for their loan clubs Tuesday.

Forward Kenwyne Jones started and scored for Central FC in their CONCACAF Champions League 2-2 draw against Sporting KC. Jones scored in the 56th minute with a right-footed shot from a tight angle into the corner. Jones had scored earlier, but the referee judged that he had committed a foul and waved off the goal.

“I think we gave away the game,” Jones said. “We had many chances to score.”

The game was a preview of what Jones may see in MLS.

“I knew going in that I would be man-marking him on set pieces,” KC defender Amer Didic told the team’s website about marking Jones. “He’s a big, physical presence. He holds the ball up every time he gets it. It’s just a matter of keeping him in front of you to make him play backward. He’s just a very talented player.”

Midfielder Chris McCann also made his first appearance for Covnetry City in England’s League One. Coventry drew 0-0 with Bury. They will play Bradford City on Saturday.

“Top six is the aim, if I can help the boys get in to that zone it’ll be a good achievement,” McCann told the team’s website. “While I’m here I want to concentrate on my football at this club.

“It’s been difficult for the lads to build in all the new ideas and systems, it will take some time on the training ground to integrate things. You have got to be patient, it is a young group without too much experience, but give it time and it will come together.”
