FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney was named the Professional Football Writers of America “Good Guy Award” winner Thursday in a vote of Atlanta writers and broadcasters who regularly are assigned to cover the team.

“I’m glad to be the ‘Good Guy,’” Mooney said. “I try to be here as much for you guys as well as for the stories that we want to tell and things we want to get out for our teammates. Thank you.”

Mooney just completed his first season with the Falcons. He was available regularly during the open media sessions, was kind with his time and thoughtful with his responses.

Several other players received strong consideration from the voters.

The Good Guy Award is given to a player for his qualities and professional style in helping pro football writers and broadcasters do their jobs. The national award was first given by the PFWA in 2005.
