The Braves on Saturday placed reliever A.J. Minter on the 15-day injured list (backdated to Wednesday) with left shoulder inflammation, recalling pitcher Derek Rodríguez in a corresponding move.

The move comes a week after Minter departed in the eighth inning of the Braves’ 6-1 win versus Tampa Bay two games before the All-Star break, at the time calling the injury “pectoral tightness.” The decision was made Friday night, Braves manager Brian Snitker said, after Minter worked out and tried to throw and doctors took a look at him.

It’s mostly a precautionary move, per Snitker.

“We’ll just make sure we get ahead, stay ahead of it,” Snitker said. “He’ll be day-to-day the rest of the time, really. It’s nothing, I don’t think, real serious. So hopefully we’ll just, like I said, get ahead of it and when he gets back he’ll be able to resume his normal workouts. … You just don’t want to push anything and make it bigger than what it is.”

First-round pick in the house

Sporting alligator boots (fitting, given the Braves selected him from the University of Florida with the No. 24 pick in the first round July 9), pitcher Hurston Waldrep was in attendance of Saturday’s Braves-White Sox game at Truist Park, stopping in the dugout to chat with media during batting practice.

A Thomasville native and lifelong Braves fan, Waldrep has met the coaching staff and also got to meet Chipper Jones, he said. Taking in Saturday’s atmosphere was a special experience for him.

“It’s pretty sweet,” Waldrep said. “It’s awesome to be here, meet everyone, get to see the atmosphere. It’s a good feeling. ... Growing up a Braves fan and just finally getting here and realizing this is where I’m supposed to be, this is going to be my home for a few years, hopefully, just being able to take all this in, it’s a goal of mine, life-long goal to be here, to play at this level.”
