Rockmart’s Gavin Green became the state’s leading receiver this week while Whitefield Academy’s Mason Hollingsworth and Dalton’s Caine Woods maintained their leads in rushing and passing, respectively.

Green, a sophomore, had only three receptions in a 50-28 victory over Sonoraville last week, but those three went for three touchdowns and 148 yards. Green is averaging 25.7 yards per reception for a total of 746 yards.

Hollingsworth rushed for 142 yards and five touchdowns in a 55-0 victory over Mount Paran Christian last week. That boosted his total to 1,389 yards. Hollingsworth is averaging 231.5 rushing yards per game for a 5-1 Class A Division I team.

Charging hard behind him is Ty Cummings, whose single-game state-record 615 yards against Baldwin last week put him at 1,332 for the season.

Leading in passing again is Dalton’s Woods, who has thrown for 1,918 in seven games. Woods and passing runner-up Alex Schlieman (1,788 yards) are off this week, meaning the race will tighten.
