Winder-Barrow’s M.J. Dowdy took the state rushing lead last week with his 321-yard, five-touchdown performance in a 35-16 victory over Apalachee.

Dowdy has 946 rushing yards on the season and 3,424 for his career. He is two yards behind CeCe Green for the school record for career yards. He can break that record and reach 1,000 yards in tonight’s game against Alcovy.

Dowdy, who is 5 feet, 11 inches and 205 pounds, has nine college offers varying from Georgia Southern to Navy to Yale.

The state’s leading passer is Dalton’s Cain Woods with 1,432.

The leading receiver is Calhoun’s Justin “Jutt” Beasley, who had 10 receptions for 186 yards and two touchdowns last week in a 52-42 loss to Cambridge. Beasley has surpassed 100 yards receiving and scored at least one touchdown in each of his four games for the reigning Class 3A champions.
