It's helpful to know how scratch-, bend-, and crack-resistance the phones are, so one YouTuber, JerryRigEverything, recently conducted a durability test on the iPhone 8.
To do so, he performed a variety of scratch tests using razor blades, coins and keys. He found that the back of the phone, made with glass, the home key and front lens passed with flying colors. However, the back lens, which is made with sapphire, and the metal sides were a bit scratched after he used a razor.

He then examined how the phone reacts to extreme heat. After he applied a lighter directly to the retina display, the pixels turned black. But when the heat was removed and the pixels cooled, everything went back to normal within seconds.
Lastly, JerryRigEverything did a bend test, where he flexed and turned the phone to assess its sturdiness. The waterproofing adhesive was not ruined unlike it was with the iPhone 7. Therefore, he declared the updated version “skinny jean approved.”
In the end, he called the iPhone 8 “a well-built phone,” praising it for its “extraordinary amount of thought and design.”
