Woman struck by MARTA bus dies

A woman struck by a MARTA bus in Southwest Atlanta last week has died.

Channel 2 Action News is reporting the victim is 19-year-old Brenda Travis of Atlanta.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, which is investigating the incident, Travis was walking south on Lee Street and crossing Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard last Wednesday just before 9 p.m. when she was struck by an oncoming MARTA bus. Travis was taken to Grady Hospital, where she died Saturday, according to Channel 2. No charges have been filed. A preliminary report from APD indicates the woman was illegally crossing the street at the time she was struck.

MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris issued this statement about her death: “On behalf of the entire MARTA family, we extend our deepest sympathy to the victim’s family for their loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been touched by this tragic accident.”
