A Lithia Springs woman who allegedly caused a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Cobb County has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Oyin Jones Mitchell, 39, attempted to turn left from Richard D. Sailors Parkway onto New Macland Road, near Powder Springs, on July 6 when she pulled into the path of an oncoming motorcycle, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The right side of Mitchell's 2012 GMC Acadia collided with a 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Anthony B. Gaiter, according to police. Gaiter, 42, of Mableton, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he later died. Neither Mitchell nor her 17-month-old daughter was injured.

On Monday, Cobb police obtained an arrest warrant for Mitchell, charging her with vehicular homicide in the second degree, failure to yield and a seatbelt violation, records show. All of the charges are misdemeanors. Mitchell’s daughter was not properly restrained in a car seat, the warrant states.

“The car seat was not properly installed and secured in the vehicle as recommended by the manufacturer, being loose and easily move-able in all directions,” the warrant states.

Mitchell turned herself in Monday afternoon and was booked into the Cobb jail, booking records show. She was released several hours later after posting $50,000 bond.
