The body of a 74-year-old woman was found Thursday afternoon in an apartment complex lake in Cherokee County.

Investigators were called to the Waldan Pond apartments, off Bells Ferry Road near Acworth, after a resident spotted a body in the lake, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The body was removed from the lake and identified as Betty West, a resident of the complex, Baker said Thursday night.

An autopsy will be conducted Saturday morning at the GBI Crime Lab to determine West’s cause of death, Baker said.
