Automatic budget cuts to a variety of Georgia programs could have an impact on thousands of people. Below is a sampling of possible effects:

Number 1: As many as 36,000 civilian Defense Department employees would be furloughed one day a week through September.

Number 2: Roughly 390 primary and secondary education teachers could lose their jobs, at least temporarily.

Number 3: Protection and monitoring of Georgia's air and water might take a $3.5 million hit.

Number 4: Thousands of unemployed Georgians would likely do without $873,000 to help them find work.

Number 5: Federal funds to vaccinate 4,180 children for measles, mumps, Rubella, tetanus, whooping cough and influenza could disappear.
