When a Florida man’s backpack was not searched after he entered a government building on Monday, he had two questions to staff members:
“What if I have a bomb in my back pack? Do you wanna check my bag? I have a bomb in it.”
David Armstrong, 51, was arrested Monday afternoon by Delray Beach Police and faces charges of making a false report about a bomb, according to court records.
The incident took place at the Palm Beach County Health Annex.
After he said he had a bomb, an employee reportedly told him he shouldn’t say that, and he replied, “They check bags at the Social Security Office, but don’t check them here?”
Armstrong told investigators he went up to a security guard and asked what kind of security measures were in place to keep someone with a bomb away. The security guard said he could only call 911, which he did and Armstrong was subsequently arrested.
No explosive devices were found in Armstrong’s backpack, according to police.
On Tuesday morning, Armstrong made his first appearance in court where Judge Joseph Marx ordered he be held on $3,000 bail. Armstrong does not have an extensive criminal history, with only three arrests between 2004 and 2008 where all charges were either dropped or he was found not guilty.
