It turned out to be a “purrfect” pairing.
Anthony Pego, 36, is a jewelry artist who wanted to get more practice with his digital stylus. He started drawing politicians as cats, initially to hand out as silly gifts for friends.
But then it became a new passion and an Internet hit. Now Pego has a lofty goal of drawing all 100 U.S. senators as felines.
Pego, a dog owner, said in an interview that he chose to draw politicians as cats instead of dogs because it was more of a challenge.
In addition to the drawings, Pego “catifies” the politicians’ names, so New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo became “Andrew Cuomew.”
The quirky drawings have become a big hit online. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) posted his Pego portrait on his official Twitter account.
Pego said that while the project is just for fun, he’s learning a lot about who is running the country.
More on the project can be found at the artist's website, Boo Science.
