The daily showers and storms typical of a North Georgia summer aren’t going anywhere Wednesday, but there should be fewer opportunities to get wet.
Rain chances are the lowest Wednesday that they’ve been all week, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. There won’t be much change to the humidity, he said, but there could be more sunshine.
“The reason for that: We’ve got high pressure coming in from the Atlantic, and that high is going to put a lid on our rain chances over the next few days,” Monahan said. “There’s still moisture for some scattered downpours, but they are not going to be as widespread.”
Showers and storms are 40% likely Wednesday, according to Channel 2. Most of North Georgia is off to a dry start, with the exception of the mountain counties. Monahan said metro Atlanta should stay dry for the morning commute and the lunch hour.
Rain becomes more likely this afternoon, especially around sunset, he said.
“It’s not going to be that all-day rain that we’ve seen over the weekend and early this week, where the clouds settle in and they don’t budge,” he said. “A little more sunshine is breaking into North Georgia’s forecast for the afternoon.”
The region is headed for highs in the upper 80s Wednesday. Atlanta’s projected high is 87 degrees.
Monahan said Thursday morning should also start dry before another 40% chance for showers and storms rolls in Thursday afternoon. Friday should see more of the same, he said.

Metro Atlanta interstates are lighter than normal at the start of the Wednesday morning rush, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
There are “no slow zones that we are picking up” at 6:30 a.m., traffic reporter Mark McKay said. Mot overnight construction projects have cleared, including a project on I-75 North at I-675 in Stockbridge.
