Some parts of North Georgia woke up to freezing temperatures Wednesday morning.
The mountains started the day in the 20s, while there were 30s in the Atlanta suburbs and low 40s in the city. All of metro Atlanta was under a freeze warning until 9 a.m.
“For all of us, as we start out the day, it is bundle up weather,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
A chilly start will give way to a cool afternoon, he said. Temperatures are only expected to reach the low 60s for highs in metro Atlanta.
Wednesday should be “clear and comfortable" under a cloud-free sky, according to Monahan.
“Still on the cool side today, still on the cool side tomorrow, but as we go toward Friday, warmer air starts to move into North Georgia," he said. “And that’s only going to come with a few more clouds.”
There is no rain in the forecast through the weekend, according to Channel 2. The clouds may block out some of the sunshine, but they will also help to make things warmer.
Monahan expects temperatures in the 70s by Sunday.
“The mornings will get a little warmer, and the afternoon will get much warmer by the weekend,” he said.
North Georgia is not expected to get any impacts from Hurricane Iota, which made landfall in Central America as a Category 5 storm. All of the rain associated with Iota should stay well to the south, Monahan said.
There may be no weather impacts to travel Wednesday, but construction projects are causing some delays at the end of the morning drive, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
In DeKalb County, a crew was blocking one westbound lane past Chamblee Dunwoody Road. There are outer loop delays out of Doraville, the Traffic Center reported.
