Cobb County water crews work to repair a break to a water main on Ben King Road that impacted 170 homes and two nearby elementary schools Wednesday morning.

Students at one Cobb County elementary school had to be relocated, roads were shut down and water service was impacted Wednesday by a major water main break.

About 170 homes and two elementary schools were without water after the main ruptured along Ben King Road in Kennesaw, according to Cobb County authorities. Both Ben King and Carrie Farm roads were closed while repairs were underway.

Students at Big Shanty Elementary were relocated to North Cobb High School for the remainder of the school day due to the disruption, according to a school district spokesperson.

Big Shanty Elementary sent its students to North Cobb High School to finish the school day because of the disruption, and nearby St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School opted to cancel its classes. Both schools were back to normal operations Thursday.

Water service was restored by 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, but the roads did not reopen until 3:15 p.m.

No boil water order was necessary, a county spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Additional work is needed to complete repairs to the road.
