A car sped off Lawrenceville Highway into a gas station Monday morning, eventually crashing sideways and hitting a pedestrian and several other cars, officials said.

The driver, a 55-year-old man, died in the crash, Lawrenceville police said in a statement. He was identified Tuesday as Oluyinka Akinseinde of Lawrenceville, police said.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 40s, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, the statement said.

The car crashed into the front entrance of Ruma Food Mart and ended up on its side next to several parked cars about 10:05 a.m.

Surveillance video released by the police department shows a black car nearly flying off Lawrenceville Highway and narrowly past a gas pump, before it turns sideways and crashes into the mart at the Exxon gas station.

Investigators are looking into what caused the deadly crash.

“Still no information on the deceased driver’s status to explain why he lost control,” Lt. J.O. Parker told AJC.com.
