Those looking to get outside and enjoy some fresh air will find ample opportunity Tuesday.
Temperatures are headed to the upper 50s, and there is only a slight chance of rain in the forecast for the overnight hours, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. There may still be 60 days to go until the start of spring, but Monahan said North Georgia will feel like springtime Tuesday.
“Today is the warmest day of the week, the warmest we’ve had in a while actually across North Georgia, and it’s part of a series of mild days we’re going to have,” he said.
Atlanta’s projected high is 59 degrees, well above the average of 52 for this time of year. Temperatures should remain above average for much of the work week, but rain chances will come up, according to Channel 2.
A 10% chance of precipitation arrives Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning as the first of two cold fronts moves across the region.
“We could squeeze out a couple of sprinkles around North Georgia,” Monahan said. “It’s not going to amount to very much. Probably just leave the umbrella at home, no big deal here, today and tomorrow.”
An umbrella will be necessary Thursday and Friday, he said, as heavier showers develop along the second cold front.
“It will get wetter as the week goes on,” Monahan said. “Outdoor activities are just fine for your Wednesday, but Thursday and Friday — probably going to have to keep it inside as we track some rain showers moving on through the area.”

The heaviest rain is likely to be contained to Middle and South Georgia, he said, but the Southside of Atlanta could also see some heavier downpours. It should all be over and done by the start of the weekend, according to Channel 2.
With the rain, temperatures are expected to come down slightly. Friday should be the coolest day this week with a projected high of 52 degrees, according to the latest forecast.

The Tuesday morning drive is also off to a smooth start. At 6 a.m., there is only one trouble spot on the Perimeter after a crash in Sandy Springs, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Police were blocking two left lanes on the outer loop past New Northside Drive, which could impact the ride into Cobb County, traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
“The good news though: That’s against the normal flow of rush hour traffic,” he said.
