Rain chances remain elevated Tuesday as a “highway of moisture” continues to pump humidity and clouds from the Gulf into North Georgia, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.
There is no rain to worry about Tuesday morning, but Monahan said scattered showers and storms are 60% likely this afternoon. During the drive to work and school, he said most of the wet weather will stay in Alabama.
“There are storms, there are showers to the west, right here underneath this area of low pressure,” Monahan said early Tuesday. “As long as this stays out here, it will keep our pattern unsettled.”
As humidity rises and temperatures climb, rain chances will increase, he said. Atlanta’s projected high Tuesday is 85 degrees. Monahan said it won’t be rainy all day as sunshine is expected to break through the clouds around 5 p.m.
According to Channel 2, there could still be some downpours around late Tuesday before the rain settles down overnight, and Wednesday morning begins under a layer of clouds.
“Then through the afternoon, there’s going to be a change in the weather pattern,” Monahan said. “Notice southside through Eatonton, Griffin, McDonough, you’re a little drier tomorrow, so you are going to get hotter up toward 90.”
Temperatures will be lower in Atlanta while rain persists Wednesday, he said, topping out in the upper 80s. The best chance for showers and storms Wednesday is in northwest Georgia, according to the latest forecast.
“As that rain chance starts to drop a bit, temperatures are coming up,” Monahan said. “Eighty-seven on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we’ll be in the upper 80s, and over the weekend, scattered showers and storms around.”

There are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates as long as pavement remains dry Tuesday morning, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. But a crash in DeKalb County could make for trouble ramping to I-20, the Traffic Center reported.
The crash was moved to a shoulder on I-285 North and was blocking the I-20 East ramp at 6:15 a.m.
“Delays exiting off from I-285 to I-20, but it is not causing any delays on I-285,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
