A cold front headed for North Georgia on Tuesday won’t do much for the heat, but it could help with the muggy air.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said drier, more comfortable air is just hours away. It won’t feel quite as sticky when temperatures hit a projected high of 90 this afternoon, he said.
“Another hot day in the forecast this afternoon,” Monahan said. “I can’t promise necessarily cooler weather this time of year, but we can knock this tropical humidity out. We’re going to do that later today.”
Tuesday is starting warm and humid in the low 70s. Monahan said a few clouds in the sky this morning will not trigger any rain showers. In fact, there is no in the forecast until a 10% chance of showers Friday morning, according to Channel 2.
“By tomorrow that humidity drops,” Monahan said. “That means we have a dry day tomorrow, but we’ll also have a cooler start. Wednesday morning should be pretty nice with 60s in town.”
Despite the more comfortable air, the afternoons will still be warm. Highs in the mid- to upper 80s are in the forecast all week, according to Channel 2.
“That dry air is going to be in place,” Monahan said. “This time of year it’s hard to get that to stay around very long. By Friday the humidity comes back up and we’re back in the mugginess.”
Rain chances don’t really ramp up until Saturday, when Monahan said there is a chance of a tropical system developing in the Gulf of Mexico. If it develops, the system could track across North Georgia late Saturday and early Sunday morning and dump heavy rainfall, he said.
