A sinkhole shut down Powers Ferry Road in Sandy Springs, and it likely will mean the road will be closed indefinitely, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The road is closed between Dupree and Raider drives. A Sandy Springs fire truck discovered the hole while responding to a call.

While the hole is not very big on the surface, officials told Channel 2 it is much larger under the ground. Officials ran a camera underneath to see the damage, which could be as wide as 12 feet.

A backhoe is working at the scene.
