North Georgia’s spring preview continues Thursday with another day of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s.
With the official start of spring still a few weeks away, temperatures have climbed about 10 degrees above average this week as the region stays dry. There will be a few more clouds in the sky Thursday, but they should not bring any rain, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
“We’re going to be treated to another beautiful springlike afternoon,” he said. “Still in the low 70s, but a little cooler than yesterday. I don’t think there will be many complaints — 71 is the high temperature today.”
Monahan said North Georgia will press pause on spring Friday as cooler and wetter weather moves in. While those on the Southside should stay dry, rain is expected to drench the Friday morning drive from metro Atlanta to the north.
Off-and-on showers will continue through the day, according to Channel 2. Temperatures are predicted to take a 20-degree nosedive, with a projected high of only 53 degrees Friday.
“We’re going to get that on out of here and we’re right back to some great outside weather for Saturday,” Monahan said.
While there could be a few lingering showers on the Northside, he expects most of metro Atlanta will be dry and sunny Saturday with a return to the 70s.
By Sunday afternoon, the city could reach 75 degrees, according to the latest forecast.

Thursday’s weather forecast may be bright, but the morning drive is off to a grim start. All eastbound lanes of I-20 are closed at the Downtown Connector while police investigate a shooting, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
The lanes were shut down about 5:45 a.m., and authorities have not said when they will reopen.
Traffic stuck behind the closure was being forced off the interstate onto the Downtown Connector, the Traffic Center reported. There are major delays from the Westside.
Commuters can take Hollowell Parkway, Joseph E. Boone Boulevard or Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to get around the backups.
