A Thomaston man is back behind bars because of what authorities found in his cell phone during a previous arrest.

Michael Wayne Sites, 24, turned himself into Hampton police Jan. 31 in an Ingles parking lot in connection with an outstanding Henry County warrant alleging the sexual exploitation of children. The warrant stemmed from evidence Henry County Sheriff’s deputies found in Sites’ cell phone during an August arrest for disorderly conduct, according to a police incident report.

Sites was detained at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in August after a physical altercation with Sheriff’s deputies. He was taken to the security office at the racetrack but refused to answer questions of the arresting deputies. While looking in Sites’ cell phone for the name and number of a family member or friend, a deputy observed pornographic pictures of young girls, thought to be between 6- and 15-years-old, the report says. The deputy contacted the Henry County Police Department and gave them the phone.

Sites remains in jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
