The downtown theater the Theatrical Outfit will hold its annual gala fund-raiser again this year, but the festivities will take place online.

The event will be staged May 30, and the theater's website suggests "Join us from the comfort of your home for a fun evening of homemade cocktails, a fabulous auction, and lots of guests and surprises!"

link to the silent auction will go live on May 25. In the meantime, fans can listen to Theatrical Outfit performers singing some of their familiar tunes on Instagram and Facebook.

Among the special guests at the online event will be trumpeter/band-leader Joe Gransden, who will perform a musical number remotely.

New artistic director Matt Torney will be Skyping in to the event from Washington, D.C. Among the honorees that evening will be former artistic director Tom Key, who has been at the helm of the theater company for 25 years, but is retiring this summer.

Many of the guests will be filming from their own homes, said spokesman Ryan Oliveti, while a handful will be live (but socially distant) at the theater itself, on Luckie Street.

Oliveti said the gala’s fund-raising target is $125,000.

Guests at the online gala will presumably have to mix those homemade cocktails themselves. In the coming days the theater plans to post recipes for speciality cocktails for those who want to fix them at home.

The items that will be auctioned include original art, restaurant meals and vacation getaways.

Patrons of the theater will be asked to tape a reminiscence of their favorite Theatrical Outfit memory. A montage of those memories will be played during the evening’s entertainment.
