Q: The AJC published an article about a bird called the brown-headed nuthatch. The writer mentioned that nuthatch boxes are going to be built and that 90 are going to be put out throughout Georgia. Is there a way someone can order one or two of those? I’d like to put them out on my property.

—Gerald Wade, Stockbridge

A: You can order a brown-headed nuthatch nest box through the Atlanta Audubon Society by going to its website at atlantaaudubon.org/bhnu or by calling 678-973-2437. The nuthatch boxes will be built from repurposed wood and cost $35 each. The website also includes plans for building brown-headed nuthatch nest boxes.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has reported that the population of the brown-headed nuthatch is declining in the state, so the Atlanta Audubon Society is installing 90 nest boxes across Georgia this year to provide nesting opportunities in the bird’s native range.

Q: The Longhorn Steakhouse across from Toco Hill burned down seven months ago. The burnt-out shell of this building is still there. What are the plans for this property?

—Ann Cylinder, Atlanta

A: Darden Restaurants, which owns LongHorn Steakhouse, doesn't have "an update or any information to share at this time," on the LongHorn on North Druid Hills Road that was destroyed by fire last June 5. "We'll keep the community posted on any developments," a spokeswoman told Q&A on the News in an email.
