A Texas mother is accused of abandonment and endangerment of a child after her 2-year-old daughter was found wandering alone with a soiled diaper in the parking lot of an apartment complex, the Houston Chronicle reported.
According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, Jennifer Stanley, 33, is facing a felony charge, KHOU reported.
The front door of Stanley's apartment was wide open when police arrived, the Chronicle reported. A 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were found asleep inside, the newspaper reported.
According to video surveillance, Stanley left the apartment at 9:24 a.m. and the toddler got outside three hours later, the Chronicle reported. Police located the child around 1:30 p.m., the Constable's Office said in a news release.
Child Protective Services were contacted and advised of the children’s situation, the newspaper reported. The children are now in the custody of another family member, police said.
Stanley was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. She was released after posting $1,000 bail, Constable Mark Herman told KHOU.
