A teenager was arrested in Spalding County after running from an investigator and attempting to carjack a vehicle Thursday, authorities said.

Issac Burks, 19, was part of a group that was obstructing traffic about 1 p.m. by standing in the middle of the road in the 800 block of Williams Street, authorities said. When an investigator approached them, Burks and two other men ran to a parked car near West Quilly Street, Griffin police spokesman Lt. Daniel Jett said in a news release. A woman was inside the vehicle.

She told authorities she didn’t know the suspects, who had a gun and demanded she drive away.

“The victim was scared, confused, and wisely, didn’t comply and move the vehicle," Jett said.

After the woman got away, the investigator who was pursuing the men said he tried to speak with them, but they fled again from the woman’s vehicle. After a brief chase, Burks was arrested and taken to the Spalding County jail, according to Jett.

Police are continuing to search for the two other suspects who ran from the scene.

Investigators searched the car and found a loaded gun in the back passenger floorboard, where one of the suspects tried to hide, according to the news release.

Burks is facing charges of obstruction, first-degree hijacking of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a concealed weapon and violation of the Georgia Criminal Street Gang Act. His bond will be set Friday, according to Spalding County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Dwayne Jones.
