Police in Adairsville are searching for a man caught on video viciously throwing a dog across a parking lot outside a grooming business.

A woman told officers she had video surveillance footage of the disturbing incident that happened Thursday morning outside Waggz N Whiskerz in Bartow County, Assistant Chief Jason Kellett told AJC.com in an emailed statement.

The woman said a silver car pulled up to the side of the building on Summer Street, where a man got out of the vehicle and appeared to be looking around just before the store opened at 7 a.m., according to the statement.

The video shows that he opens the trunk, rummages around for a few seconds and removes a small dog. He then throws the dog high into the air and it lands about 15 feet away. He then gets in his car and drives off.

Despite the impact, the dog is able to get to its feet and scurry away. The woman said she found the animal moments later under her vehicle with a small wound on its back-left leg. Police did not provide details about the dog’s condition or its current placement.

The video footage failed to capture the make or model of the car or the license plate number.

Anyone with information about the man or the car is asked to contact the Adairsville Police Department at 770-773-7778. If found, the man could face animal cruelty charges, police said.
