Georgians returning after the Christmas holiday should have ideal conditions for their drives back home.
The low on Saturday night is expected to drop only to 56 degrees in metro Atlanta, which will pave the way for sustained warm weather for the rest of the week.
The high Sunday is expected to top 70 degrees and only a slight chance of a shower under partly cloudy skies.
Above average temperatures are “going to be the trend as we look ahead to the rest of this weekend and the start of this week,” said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Jennifer Lopez.
“Even the middle of next week our temperatures stay in the low 70s. Morning lows very mild, only in the 50s, and a change comes as we come into the middle of the week, when rain moves into our area,” Lopez said.
There’s only an isolated chance of showers in the area on Tuesday, but the likelihood of rain grows going into the tail half of the work week.
Meanwhile, the Georgia Department of Transportation is predicting that traffic will be light on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Travelers will get a break from construction-related lane closures as the DOT has suspended work on heavily traveled interstate highways and state routes near major shopping areas and tourist locations through 5 a.m. Monday.
