Metro Atlanta residents are in store for a string of nice days, with warm weather and plenty of sunshine expected.
North Georgia got off to a rainy start last week, but conditions improved just in time for the weekend.
The average rainfall for the month of October is 3.28 inches. But Atlanta received nearly 3 inches within the past week alone, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
That’s behind us now, and picturesque fall weather is in store.
“We are finally getting over the hump,” Deon said. “This weekend you can expect plenty of sunshine and warmer-than-normal temperatures”
Sunday’s afternoon high is expected to reach 81 degrees in the city, which is about 4 degrees warmer than average for this time of year, she said.

“We have a nice, warm stretch of weather over the next couple days,” Deon said. “We’ll start off with more sunshine Sunday and we’ll keep it around all day long. Weather conditions could not be better.”
With both the Braves and Falcons on the road this weekend, Atlanta drivers won’t have any stadium traffic to compete with. The Falcons take on the New York Jets on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London. Because of the time difference, kickoff will be at 9:30 a.m. EDT.
The Braves are back at home on Monday afternoon for Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Georgia Department of Transportation has several construction projects planned that could lead to delays on metro Atlanta’s roads and interstates this weekend.
In DeKalb County, overnight lane closures will be installed on I-85 from Clairmont Road down to Midtown to replace pavement markings. There will also be overnight lane closures on Buford Highway for resurfacing.
And in Cobb County, drivers should expect delays along Powder Springs Road for an ongoing widening project.

Overnight closures are also planned this weekend along the stretch of I-20 that passes through South Cobb between Fulton and Douglas counties.
