The rain should hold off again for most of Sunday as temperatures across metro Atlanta reach the 70s for a second consecutive day.
The afternoon high is expected to reach 78 degrees as North Georgia’s springlike conditions continue, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. If so, that would tie an Atlanta record for this time of year as temperatures soar to 20 degrees above average.
While Sunday will be unseasonably warm, there likely won’t be much sunshine around as clouds linger, according to the latest forecast.
“Most of the day will be spent under a blanket of clouds,” Deon said.
Atlanta’s dry streak should come to an end overnight, however, as widespread rain moves through the area just in time to start the workweek. By Monday, the chance of showers across metro Atlanta jumps to 70%, so it might be best to get outdoors this weekend if possible.
“Monday is going to be one our wetter days,” Deon said, and the afternoon high will drop to the mid-60s as the rain moves in.
Clouds and isolated showers will likely stick around through at least Wednesday.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has several maintenance projects planned this weekend that could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates. Drivers will likely see backups at the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange as roadwork continues there.
In addition, a portion of West Peachtree Street will remain closed in Midtown as construction crews continue efforts to remove a leaning crane that has blocked the roadway for more than a week. Nearby residents were allowed to return home on Friday afternoon, but it could more time before the busy street reopens, officials said.
