North Georgians will see more rays of sunshine Sunday, but cascading rains and autumn temperatures could be on the horizon through the week.
Saturday night’s brisk winds should give way to warmer temps throughout the day. Metro Atlantans can expect a dry Sunday with temperatures reaching highs of 78 by mid-afternoon.
The weekend is likely to close out with partly cloudy skies and a slight breeze as high cirrus clouds may form in some areas. They’re unlikely to bring rain.
Showers aren’t expected until Monday when more clouds roll in along with a greater chance of chance of rain and scattered storms, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Jennifer Lopez forecasts.
Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny although highs may not reach very far into the 70s.
But the precipitation could return with heavy storms later in the week and high temps are likely to drop into the 60s by Thursday.
“So a little bit of a busy pattern for next week,” Lopez said. “That’s why this weekend is going to be such a nice treat.”
Overnight lane closures may continue to slow down traffic in some parts of metro Atlanta. Motorists in Clayton County can expect alternating single left and right lane closures on I-75. The closures are due to a project that will modify and improve just over three miles of interchange ramps and new collector-distributors adjacent to I-75 northbound connecting to Forest Parkway and I-285.
In DeKalb County, two lanes will be closed on I-285 northbound starting Sunday at 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. as the State Maintenance Office restripes to improve the interstate. In DeKalb and Fulton counties, multiple plans will be closed overnight on I-85 going towards Brookhaven as the State Maintenance Office restripes to improve the roadway.
