It was a windy start to the weekend in North Georgia. But the wind chill should ease off Sunday, giving way to slightly balmier temps.

The sunshine and dry conditions offer a peek of the upcoming forecast, which includes a midweek warmup. It’ll be a welcome reprieve from the rainstorms that rolled through metro Atlanta late last week.

Overnight lows dropped into the 20s for the second day. It should be brisk to start the day with outdoors temps around 29 degrees.

But churchgoers won’t wake up to morning breezes that’ll make it feel cooler than the actual air temperature, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon predicts.

“Not quite as cold as far as the wind chills early on Sunday morning,” she said. “During the afternoon though, it will feel a little bit better, going up to a high of 49. But that’s still below our average high of 56.”

Looking ahead, there’s a slight chance of rain to return Monday morning, and clouds will likely move in throughout the day, Deon said.

Clear skies should return Tuesday and Wednesday, and the latter is expected to have a high of 56.

“Sunshine returns with warmer temperatures middle of next week,” Deon said.

On the roads Sunday, drivers can expects construction delays. A project to widen Ga. 360 to four lanes along six miles in Cobb and Paulding counties will force weekend lane closures until 6 a.m. Monday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Roadwork continues at the of I-285 outer loop, blocking the left lane of westbound traffic at Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. A lane of the inner loop will be shut down in the opposite direction just before Roswell Road.

Two southbound lanes of Piedmont Road will be shut down from Morosgo Drive to Alpine Road until 7 p.m. for utility work, DOT’s schedule indicates.

On I-75 in Fulton County, three northbound lanes will shut down overnight Sunday for bridge work from Mount Paran Road to Cumberland Boulevard.
