Scattered rain held off for the most part Saturday in metro Atlanta. But the clouds and precipitation are expected to arrive early Sunday and douse the area.

There’s an 80% chance of rain for the day, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.

“That’s when we’ll have some rain showers moving in across far North Georgia and then sliding southward, getting into the heart of the metro during the morning hours,” Deon said. “So heading out to church services or running errands early on Sunday, make plans for it to be a little bit wet.”

Deon said the showers should wane during afternoon and evening hours after rainclouds continue pushing south past the metro region.

They’ll leave behind a lingering overcast sky with scattered showers. The high for the day is expected to be 53 in Atlanta.

“Sunday afternoon’s a lot cooler with the wet conditions around,” Deon said. “We’ll only make it into the 50s and then we’ll dry out early next week.”

Temperatures rise over the first few days of the week, and should hit 67 by Wednesday, according to the five-day forecast.

Tailgaters, marathon runners and construction crews could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s roads Sunday.

Beginning Sunday, Ga. 400 southbound will be shifting lanes for a new alignment. A new exit will be created to serve both the Abernathy Road and Hammond Drive exits.

Two southbound lanes of Ga. 237 will be closed from Morosgo Drive to Alpine Road in Fulton County.

Several streets in the downtown Atlanta will be partially closed for the Publix Atlanta Marathon, which begins and ends at Centennial Olympic Park. Runners will travel southeast on Marietta Street and use parts of North Avenue, Moreland Drive, Freedom Parkway, Juniper Street, Ponce de Leon Avenue, Peters Street, Northside Drive and Trinity Avenue. The marathon will also close the I-85/SR 403 off ramp at exit 246 southbound.
