Two people were in serious condition Tuesday afternoon, a day after a driver left the roadway, striking a pedestrian, Marietta police said.

Police believe that Moses Katta, 50, of Marietta, was driving southbound on Franklin Road when his Nissan Sentra left the roadway and drove onto the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian, according to Officer David Baldwin.

Jasmine Harper, 18, also of Marietta, was hit on the sidewalk around 3:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection with Twin Brooks Drive, Baldwin said.

Katta and Harper were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition late Monday, Baldwin said. Their conditions were updated to serious condition Tuesday, he said.

Investigators were trying to identify the cause of the wreck Monday night and it was not yet known if charges would be filed, Baldwin said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer David Auld at 770-794-5352.
