A fisherman in China discovered a giant salamander that could be more than 200 years old.
The massive creature was found in a cave when a fisherman stepped on something “soft and slimy” according to a Chinese media report.
The salamander is nearly five feet long and weighs 114 pounds, according to CCTV. While experts who examined the salamander estimate that it could be up to 200 years old, Chinese giant salamanders have an average lifespan of 80 years, according to Mother Nature Network.
The giant salamander is endangered in China due to pollution, habitat loss and overhunting. Salamander is considered a culinary delicacy in China.
