No one was injured when a school bus hit two houses Monday in Clayton County. But the homes were damaged and a gas line ruptured, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The crash happened on Panhandle Road near the Henry County line, and investigators believe the bus swerved to avoid a car that had crossed the center line, according to the report.

Terry Durham said he was doing yard work when he looked up and saw the bus coming toward him. Durham said he was able to get out of the way as the bus smashed into his neighbor’s garage.

“I’m blessed to be here,” Durham told Channel 2.

Durham’s neighbor, Tom Essinger, said he first thought he was hearing thunder when the bus hit his house. The impact was powerful enough to push Essinger’s wife off of the sofa, he said.

The front of the school bus was also damaged. Charges are expected to be filed against the driver accused of causing the crash.
