Chilly temperatures rolled through North Georgia overnight, but sunny skies and warm weather are expected to settle into Saturday afternoon and into Sunday.

After a week that began with cooler temperatures and only became hotter each day, Thursday’s overnight cold front is gone and mid-70s are expected for Braves baseball weekend and the return of the Shaky Knees Festival at Central and Renaissance parks.

“A nice clear sky tonight and a great looking Saturday morning,” Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Expect high temperatures and dry weather through the weekend in Atlanta.

The Braves will host the Los Angeles Dodgers at Truist Park on Saturday at 8:08 p.m. for the sixth game of the National League Championship Series. Fans can expect to be pulling out their sweaters and bundling up for chilly weather under the waning full moon. After sunset, the temperature is expected to fall to the mid-60s.

“It was great that they lost last night so they could win here, right? That was the idea,” Burns said.

With Shaky Knees taking over Central and Renaissance parks in Midtown over the weekend, loud alternative, indie and rock music will vibrate through the busy streets. Shows are set to begin around noon on Saturday and Sunday and end around 11 p.m. on both days. Pine Street, Central Park Place and Linden Avenue will close down over the weekend to allow festival-goers to move about.

The weekend will remain dry with temperatures hitting the mid-70s on Saturday and Sunday will be even warmer and just as dry. Expect a high of 77 degrees by mid-afternoon on Sunday and partly cloudy skies with a slight breeze.

Enjoy the mild and dry weather while it lasts. The rain is coming back in Atlanta on Monday and the heat is staying.

Traffic in Atlanta may have some impediments overnight through the weekend with a few partial closures on state route 401. In Clayton County, expect alternating single left and right lane closures on state route 401 going northbound and eastbound onto the collector. The closures are due to a project that will modify and improve just over three miles of interchange ramps and new collector-distributors adjacent to I-75 northbound connecting to Forest Parkway and I-285.

In DeKalb County, two lanes will be closed on I-285 northbound starting Sunday at 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. as the State Maintenance Office restripes to improve the interstate. In DeKalb and Fulton counties, multiple plans will be closed overnight on I-85 going towards Brookhaven as the State Maintenance Office restrips to improve the roadway.

The traffic to look out for, though: the Braves are in town, so expect traffic volume to increase around the junction of I-285 and I-75 well ahead of the first pitch.
