Rain will be making a presence on a warm Saturday.

While Georgians will be greeted in the morning with a lot of cloud cover, they’ll also be treated to light showers with a couple of heavy downpours in the later half of the day, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

“Turning toward late morning and early afternoon, the rain starts in northwestern Georgia and it’s basically going to be along at the west of I-85 as we get to about 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon,” Burns said. “By late in the afternoon and early evening, this is at 9 o’clock with a front moving into Atlanta, there will be pretty good rainfall amounts across the area. That scoots out rather quickly here as we get into Sunday morning.”

According to Channel 2, widespread rain will return Sunday night.

Temps are expected to reach a high of 64 degrees with a 40% chance of rain on Saturday, Burns said.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects planned this weekend that could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates.

Maintenance activities on I-20 West near the Downtown Connector will have a major impact on traffic starting at 7 a.m., GDOT reported. Three out of four lanes will be closed until 5 p.m.

Construction activities on I-285 South near South Cobb Drive will moderately impact drivers starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, GDOT said. The right exit lane will be closed until 9 p.m. the same day.

Rolling closures on I-285 East near Riverside Drive will heavy affect traffic due to all lanes being closed from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, GDOT said.
