Wet weather may be taking the weekend off, but the cold is here to stay.

The low temperature on Saturday could get down to freezing, but any rain should gradually clear over the course of the day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

“Overnight and into the morning hours, we could have a few lingering flurries,” Nitz said. “We’re looking at drying conditions as we head through the day.”

Though the sun is expected to make an appearance by the afternoon, a steady, northwesterly wind may keep most metro area residents from spending too much time outside. The high temperature Saturday is expected to be 46 degrees. The average this time of year is 52 degrees, according to Nitz.

“It’s going to be cool and dry through the weekend,” Nitz said. The dry weather should last through early Monday, but more wintry precipitation could hit early in the week.

“Watch out for the possibility of another chance of a little wintry weather early in the workweek,” he said.

Traffic is expected to be normal over the weekend, with minor closures on express lanes in the Northwest Corridor and south of Atlanta, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Both closures are for regular maintenance and the express lanes are expected to reopen by 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
