Saturday morning got off to a chilly start, but the weather should start to warm up later this afternoon.

There’s plenty of sunshine expected on the first half of the weekend, and afternoon temperatures should reach the high 60s in metro Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

Those heading out early may want to bring a jacket, however.

“Temperatures this morning are running anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees colder than this time yesterday,” Deon said. “It will stay cooler than where we have been, but temperatures are actually running close to (normal) for this time of year.”

Sunday is expected to be a little cooler as a cold front moves into North Georgia overnight, according to the latest forecast.

There’s a 20% chance for a few light showers in the morning, but the rain isn’t expected to be very widespread.

“We are going to get a few more clouds rolling in,” Deon said. “That’s going to keep temperatures milder for the start of our Sunday, but by Sunday afternoon we’ll be back into the 60s and lower 70s.”

The Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects planned this weekend that could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates.

Construction activities will close down the entrance ramp to I-285 West from I-75 North in Clayton County until 5 a.m. Monday, GDOT said. During the closure, traffic from I-75 northbound heading to the ramp onto I-285 westbound will be detoured to exit at Old Dixie Highway and then onto I-75 South.

Maintenance activity on I-285 southbound near South Atlanta Road in Cobb County will moderately impact traffic from 9 a.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday, GDOT said. The left exit lane will be closed off.

Construction on I-85 North near North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County will also moderately impact traffic from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, GDOT said. The right lane of five will be closed.
