Report: 7 people hurt when Amish buggy rear-ended by car

Seven people riding in an Amish buggy in Ohio were injured Sunday night when it was hit from behind by a suspected drunken driver, WEWS reported.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred in Ashland County shortly after 7:30 p.m. Troopers arrested Patrick Muscaro, 47, of West Salem, and charged him with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, the OSHP said

Troopers said Muscaro failed to maintain a clear distance between his Ford Taurus and the buggy.

Andy Swartzentruber , 31, his wife and their five children were inside the buggy and were ejected from the vehicle upon impact, WEWS reported.

Swartzentruber and two of his children were flown to a hospital in Akron and were listed in serious condition, the television station reported. The driver’s wife and the other children also were injured and were taken to a local hospital, police said.
