On Wednesday, Billboard chart-topping rapper Megan Thee Stallion said that she was shot in an incident involved fellow rapper Tory Lanez. Now, sources are reporting that Tory Lanez could’ve been the gunman when she was shot multiple times Sunday.
The Houston rapper took to Instagram on Wednesday to detail her injuries due to the gunfire that ensued when she was riding in a car with Tory Lanez, who was arrested Sunday for carrying a concealed weapon, according to several reports. Some sources reported that she had been arrested along with Lanez, but she said instead she was recovering at a California hospital after surgery due to her injuries.
By Thursday, Page Six reported that Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was the gunman in the shooting.
“Tory fired the shots from within the vehicle while Megan was outside trying to leave,” a source told Page Six yesterday. “There is video and the police are investigating. This is a case of a man physically harming and abusing a woman.”
The Los Angeles Police Department has not confirmed if a video of the incident was submitted to verify that report. An LAPD spokesperson said that any videos would “not be released until the case goes to court in order to protect the integrity of the case.”
The shooting was intended to ‘physically harm’ her, the rapper said
Wednesday afternoon, the “Savage” lyricist said she wanted to correct the “narrative” that was circulating online about her foot being injured due to broken glass shattered after bullets hit Lanez’s SUV. Some were reporting that she was arrested, but she said that and other reports about Sunday’s incident were “inaccurate.”
“The narrative that is being reported about Sunday’s morning events are inaccurate and I’d like to set the record straight,” Meg began. “On Sunday Morning, I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me. I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets. I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I’m expected to make a full recovery, but it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night. I’m currently focused on my recovery, so I can return back to my life and back to making music as soon as possible.”
TMZ was the first media outlet to report about the early morning arrest and shooting involving the rapper, whose real name is Megan Pete and Peterson. Megan was listed as a “victim” in the incident after sustaining the injury.
Peterson was arrested Sunday night after police discovered a concealed firearm in the SUV he was driving. Earlier, police had received a call about 4:30 a.m. to report a disturbance at a home in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles, according to the TMZ report. Both rappers had attended an event at Kylie Jenner’s home before the mayhem ensued.
As she recovers, Megan said Wednesday that she is taking the violent situation as an “eye opener.”
“This whole experience was an eye opener and a blessing in disguise,” she wrote on Instagram. “I hate that it took this experience for me to learn how to protect my energy.”
Her revelation that she was shot has ignited speculation on social media about who is responsible for the shooting, with the topic term #WhoshotMeg trending along with the rapper’s name on Twitter.
