The Atlanta airport said a suspicious package found in the international terminal has been deemed safe, and the international terminal departures level will reopen.

The airport posted the update on its Twitter account, after the suspicious item was discovered in the departures area of the international terminal earlier in the afternoon and investigated by the Atlanta Police Department bomb unit.

According to a preliminary investigation, a man was trying to check a bag when it was found to be overweight, then he removed items from the bag and put them in garbage cans.

Someone else noticed one of the items, “thought it appeared suspicious and notified authorities,” according to APD. Investigators found the man and spoke to him. The items appear to be a rice cooker and a piece of the rice cooker and were determined to be no threat, APD said.

The departures level of the international terminal had been cordoned off.
