Authorities have released the name of a woman who was found dead in Lake Lanier early Friday morning.
The body of Michelle Dianne Baxter, 32, of Gainesville was found floating in the lake by fishermen, Hall County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said.
Baxter was face down in the northern portion of the lake on the Chattahoochee River arm, Wilbanks said.
“The cause of death has not yet been determined, but there were no obvious signs of trauma and no reason at this point in the investigation to suspect foul play,” Wilbanks said in an emailed statement.
Witnesses reported seeing a woman swimming in the area Thursday night, Wilbanks said.
Members of the Hall County Dive Team recovered the body, which was transported to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The death remains under investigation.
