A suspect arrested in a recent ‘bump and run’ carjacking in Buckhead waived his first court appearance on Saturday.
Ronnie Houston of southwest Atlanta was arrested Friday — his 24th birthday — by police and U.S. Marshals, according to Atlanta police. Police arrested him nine days after the so-called “bump and run” carjacking. His next court date is May 24.
Houston was charged with armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of financial transaction card theft, hit and run and driving without a license, police spokesman Gregory Lyon said.
Investigators believe Houston was one of three suspects accused in a May 1 carjacking near West Wesley and Howell Mill roads. The victims told police they were traveling through the intersection in a Buick Enclave when they were struck from behind.
As the couple got out of the SUV to assess the damage, they were approached by three men who robbed them at gunpoint, according to police. The suspects then left in the couple’s Buick.
Additional arrests are possible, Lyon said.
