Peachtree Road has reopened to traffic after a water main break forced crews to close several lanes in the heart of Buckhead during Wednesday’s morning rush hour.
The pipe burst at the intersection of Peachtree, West Paces Ferry and Roswell roads.
Most southbound lanes of Peachtree were blocked by construction equipment.
Scheree Rawles, spokeswoman for the city’s Department of Watershed Management, said just before 8 a.m. that repairs to the 6-inch main had been completed. Steel plates were brought in to cover the hole, and the road was reopened to traffic around 9 a.m.
Repaving of the roadway should begin on Thursday, she said.
South of that area, Collier Road was blocked at Peachtree Road throughout the morning because of a utility pole that was leaning over Collier Road near Piedmont Hospital. Collier Road reopened to traffic around noon.
