Margaret McCollom's condition was upgraded from serious to fair Sunday, three days after her husband, Peachtree City's police chief, called 911 to report that he had accidentally shot her with his service handgun.

McCollom was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition after the shooting, which happened around 4 a.m. Thursday at the couple’s home in Peachtree City.

Her condition was upgraded to serious on Saturday before being further upgraded Sunday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

A prayer vigil for McCollom’s recovery was being held Sunday afternoon at Luther Glass Park in Peachtree City.

McCollom’s husband, Peachtree City police Chief William McCollom, has been placed on administrative leave while the GBI investigates the shooting. He has not been charged in the shooting.
