A 28-year-old Oregon man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday for raping and impregnating an 11-year-old girl, the Herald and News in Klamath Falls reported.
Billy Joe Smith, of Sprague River, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree rape stemming from the November 2017 incident, and his sentence was handed down the same day, The Oregonian reported.
Smith was charged after the victim was found to be 18 weeks pregnant in March 2018, the Herald and News reported. He was arrested in Nevada a month later and extradited to Klamath County, according to the newspaper.
Klamath County District Attorney Eve Costello said the other charges against Smith -- one count each of first-degree sex abuse and incest -- were dismissed in the settlement conference, the Herald and News reported.
Court records show Smith is also wanted in Wisconsin on charges of forgery, battery and resisting arrest, The Oregonian reported.
