A DeKalb County police officer shot a teenager in the leg during a struggle Wednesday afternoon outside a gas station.

The officer, whose name was not released, was dispatched around noon to a Citgo at the intersection of Columbia and Rainbow drives, near Decatur, on a report of two suspicious people in the area, according to DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish.

The first responding officer detained two suspects and was conducting a search when one of the suspects began to struggle with her, Parish said. The second suspect, who was not involved in the struggle, was arrested.

The officer deployed her Taser, but it did not strike the teenager, whose name was not released. The teenager attempted to grab the officer’s Taser and continued to struggle before the officer shot the teen one time in the leg, Parish said.

The teenager was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was not injured.

Per department protocol, the officer involved will be on administrative leave pending an investigation, Parish said.
